Using Love to Justify Sex in A Very Short Story Essay -- Very Short St
Using Love to Justify Sex in A Very Short romance At first glance unusually normal, at second glance unusually striking, the title A Very Short Story reveals Hemingways perception of a perhaps unforgotten war experience. Man went to war. He met woman. They spent many nights together. They considered marriage. He went home without her. She moved on. He moved on. The end. The story, the relation of events, is indeed short. This is not timeless spiritual love instead, this is the animalistic, barbaric sexual act- sex and love for the sole purpose and convenience of sex itself. Then it is over. The story begins on ONE heatable evening in Padua (Hemingway, 65), hot relating to passionate feelings, and evening as the perfect time for an affair. The reader can deduct from the reference to Padua, a city in northeast Italy, that perhaps the character is at war, and in fact, this is confirmed in the fourth paragraph with a reference of an armistice (65). The main character himself is ref erred to as he, though, knowing the authors biographical history, and presence in the war, Hemingway is a presumable substitution. They (65), his war buddies, carried him up onto the roof, they carried him because he was injured, but also, as the others went down and took the bottles with them, actually likely intoxicated. There, he and the female figure, Luz meet, she sat on the bed, and was cool and fresh in the hot night. Immediately, alcohol, guy and girl, a rather satisfactory bed, and a hot night left alone on the rooftop combine, forming a passionate love affair. So, who is this Luz? Well, apparently, as she was on night duty (65), and she was the one who wide-awake him for the operating table, she is a... ...ncoln Park. (66). Man went to war. He met woman. They spent many nights together. They considered marriage. He went home without her. She moved on. He moved on. The end. It is a short story, and it is a unsubdivided one. Simple attraction of the opposite sexes . Simple sex. Simple break up. Simple recovery. Without the talk of marriage, it resembles any animal mating ritual on the Discovery Channel. arouse that the story ends with the onslaught of gonorrhea, as the cycle is continued, and thus, the simple recovery transforms magically to painful consequences. Perhaps, in Hemingways own life, the simple recovery of losing a mistress subsequently the war transforms and somehow contributes partly to his own suicide many years later. 1984 Critical Analysis
10/23/11 1984 critical analysis In the fresh 1984 by George Orwell a man named Winston lives within a dis-utopian society. People within this society keep their emotions non-noticeable because if they go against what the privileged circle is teaching than that person would cut back manu anyy labor for the rest of their life. In the story a party kn accept as the inward circle uses a few slogans and sayings to control everything. The inner(a) circle uses either that they say to brainwash large number into believing what they are saying is accepted. The inner partys slogans are struggle is peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is strength By utilize these phrases one can see that the inner circle can manipulate everyone into believing in what the inner circle tells them to believe in. The first slogan War is peace The inner circle has this slogan to convince people that there is no such thing as peace. The inner party seems to get people to believe they are in a constant state of war. When they are not fighting one country they are fighting the other. The inner party uses this constant state to their advantage the inner party uses this state to keep the people always occupy with a war and to keep them from thinking well-nigh rising up against the government. Examples of the constant state of war, one is the proles are constantly being bombed. With this slogan it gives people a sense of anxiety keeping them shake and to make them think that Big buddy is taking care of them and will look out for them, and protect them. The second slogan Freedom is Slavery, the inner party is trying to control everyone and getting them to hate every other country. This slogan means that to spend a penny freedom is to be a slave, which in American eyes is a big lie. The inner party puts out the slogan for people to understand it is much better to be under Big buddy than it is to be your own individual and have freedom to decide what they would like to do But to the pe ople in this dis-utopia society believe that Big Brother is for them and not only that but they have been spoon fed their whole lives and they would not know what to do even if they had freedom. The people in this society that would have some sense of what freedom is, is the proles because the inner circle doesnt significantly care about them. The third slogan is Ignorance is strength. The Meaning of Ignorance is the lack of Knowledge, Not knowing and for not knowing to be strength it does not make very much sense. The phrase Knowing is half the battle would never come into play. In many cases to win a battle is to know what the army is up against. Not knowing is how the inner circle keeps any rebels from rebelling because they dont know what they are up against.Throughout the book the inner circle is kept a secret but it is known that it is there. In the book Winston believes that Big Brother is not real and does not exist. The inner circle also retells history the way they want it told and they teach it this way to keep the people from knowing what truly is happening in the world around them. After all the slogans one of the sayings the inner circle uses is Big Brother is Watching You This society uses this poster to add to the anxiety and revere of the people. The sign has this saying and above it is a face that looks similar to Hitler. This poster is posted everywhere within the society. This saying echoes throughout ones mind to give them a sense of being constantly noteed and they have to pay attention to everything they do. This saying is not entirely false either in this society people are always looking out at people waiting and watching for them to slip up. The inner circle also uses telescreeens within each room to watch over what the person is doing and also the telescreen has no off switch.Winston has his telescreen in a location so he has a corner where he can print what ever he wants in his illegal journal. The inner circle uses its own peop le to for its eyes in the society because it uses the true followers to overwhelm all the people who would go against. The inner circle also use kids as spies. They use the kids to spy on the parents within the home to make sure they do not go against the inner party. The inner circle turns their own people on each other so not only they look to catch each other but they also have no big groups to conspire with.In Comparison of the three slogans the number one thing they all have in common is they are all false and are all contradictions of each other War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, and Ignorance is strength. Each slogan has its own purpose and reason to help the inner circle to control everybody to make sure they do not rise up against the inner party. If someone does go against the inner party the inner party sends their task force in to take that person and to have them do manually labor for the rest of their life. Which having the conceit Police a. k. task force in the mix of everything adds even more anxiety and attention into the people of this society. In truth the inner circle uses fear and repeats the slogans to get people brainwashed into believing everything the inner circle is telling them. The inner circle uses all of the sayings to manipulate and control everyone to be on their side. The inner party has these slogans to make sure everyone cant go against them. The inner party rules with fear and is kept a secret, and repeats everything to make sure it is brainwashed into believing everything they are told.In many cases if someone repeats something over and over they would believe it to be true. If someone repeated that 2 + 2 = 5 last they would start to question if it is true and then soon the person would believe it is true and trick themselves that they are right in which 2 + 2 = 5. Which is the same way with Winston in which eventually he gave into the ways of the inner circle and he started to love Big Brother who he despised at the be ginning of the book. This same process manipulated Winston into pass into the ways and is brainwashed into believing everything he is told.

Da Vinci Code Reaction paper
The movie intro led in a murder scene inside the louvre museum and clues in Da Vinci paintings lead to the discovery of a religious mystery protected by a secret society for two thousand geezerhood which could shake the foundations of Christianity. The Novel itself received both positive and negative reviews from critics, and it has been the subject of negative appraisals concerning its portrayal of history. Its writing and historical accuracy were reviewed negatively by The New Yorker When I first saw it in 2006 I was amazed how the movie made so much sense specially the scene where they jaw about the secret of the Holy Grail. In the novel Leigh Teabing explains to Sophie Neveu that the figure at the right hand of Jesus in Leonardo da Vincis painting of The Last Supper is not the apostle John, but actually bloody shame Magdalene. Leigh Teabing says that the absence of a chalice in Leonardos painting means Leonardo knew that Mary Magdalene was the actual Holy Grail and the toter o f Jesus blood. Leigh Teabing goes on to explain that this idea is supported by the shape of the letter V that is formed by the bodily positions of Jesus and Mary, as V is the symbolisation for the sacred feminine. The absence of the Apostle John in the painting is explained by knowing that John is also referred to as the Disciple Jesus loved, code for Mary Magdalene. The book also notes that the color scheme of their garments are inverted Jesus wears a red tunic with royal blue cloak Mary Magdalene wears the opposite. In my personal opinion as a believer of God, I think Dan Brown is a genius. The Da Vinci Code is one of the greatest stories ever told. The genuine draw for Browns novel is how his highly polemical basis that Christianity is not what it is purported to be, little more than an age-old instrument of oppression.

How The Internet has Affected the Music Industry Essay
When Tim-Berners Lee dreamt up the, then, crazy idea, of an inter-global network, Im authoritative very few people had the equal optimism in believing that it could happen in the future.Over the last ten years, the internet has evolved from just web pages to e-mail, to online gaming, to viewing sport and film previews, and to buying and low-spiritedloading medical specialty online. The Internet has straightway become one of the practice of medicine industrys greatest markets, estimated to reach over 25% of sales in five years. This whitethorn be true, yet the Internet is also one of the music industries greatest enemies. For some years now online shopping has been available to anyone with a credit notification and an Internet connection. E-commerce retailers such as Amazon.com sell everything from garden tools, to C.Ds and mini-discs. It is only in the last couple years however, that online shopping has taken off. Before this the worldly concern and businesses alike had not b een taking full advantage of this phenomenal asset, which has been proven to save companies millions. It was only with the creation of Windows 98 and other Internet programs that people were sure that their credit card numbers and personal details could not be viewed by another person, or hacked. Once this huge hurdle was overcome, the way we employ the Internet and the effect it had on the music industry had changed forever. The close relationship between the Internet and the music industry has led to many dramatic revolutions. starting line of all it has changed the way in which we purchase music. It has also opened up a advanced medium for record companies and musicians to promote their music, and now consumers can harken to music via technology such as RealAudio. Also, with peoples Internet connections getting faster all the time, and now with the invention broadband Internet, you can listen to music done Internet Radio Stations whilst still surfing the Internet, a new techn ique called streaming. From a consumers point of view this is all excellent news, and I am sure there is yet more to come. But from the music industrys perspective, not all of this new technology is helping their cause. legion(predicate) aras of the musicindustry have been affected in a bad way, areas such as musicians and record companies nark about copyrights, songwriters and music publishers also worry about copyrights, and distributors and high street retailers worry about sales, and they should be worried as C.D shipments went down by 7% in the first six months of 2002. Copyrights are based on control of the market how and when a copyright work is used. So the Internet has changed the foundations of the music industry.Because it is so easy and inexpensive to create a website, this makes it easy to put someones copyrighted work on to your website and the Internet, therefore making it available for anyone to listen to or copy. As many consumers testament still download this co pyrighted music for free it is obvious that they do not believe that copyrights stand for much. This is all part of a much big problem, controlling the distribution of copyrighted music on the Internet, a task that surely is near impossible with so many websites committing copyright fraud. The most famed example of copyright fraud occurred on June 1, 1999. With Microsofts supreme dominance over the computing industry and the Internet, not many other companies get a look in. In the end it took a first year university student called Shawn Fanning with the help of funding from his uncle to disrupt the balance of power. It was with the creation of an MP3 website called Napster that the public really took to downloading music from the Internet. Up until the formation of Napster, the technology had been available but had not really made it into the mainstream. You might say that it was Napster that revolutionised the way we obtain music from the Internet, not the new technology. There was however, one fatal flaw with this website. All the music that was being shared, had copyright to its name, and Napster was using these songs without paying the record companies. So on celestial latitude 7, 1999, The Recording Industry Association of America sued Napster for copyright infringement. They were asking for damages of $100,000 each time a song was copied. This however did not stop Napster in operation(p) as normal, it was only when they were sued by the hugely popular rock band Metallica that Napster was prompted to take action, or at least look like they were taking action. It was on October 31, 2000 that Napster announced a new partnership withBertelsmann-RCA in which Bertelsmann put 26,000,000 into Napster to keep it going. Then on July 26, 2001 a federal judge ordered to shut down Napster, but the music industrys elation did not last long, just two days later it was up and running again. Now Napster is operative together with major record companies EMI, Sony Music E ntertainment and Universal to develop a system where consumers using the service will pay per song or a monthly subscription fee. This is a new system, which will attempt to benefit everyone. So despite the early indications that all this technology would go to waste, Microsoft, the record companies and Internet companies seem to have sorted themselves out. The Internet may have once been a huge enemy for the music industry, but it seems like the Internet is now on its way to having an extremely positive affect on the music industry.
